Werner joined WMC Group in 2024 and currently leads process and technology developments for the battery materials division. Before WMC, he spent 18 years at Umicore, focusing on cobalt and nickel refining and recycling.
With over 25 years of experience in the metallurgical industry, Werner has an extensive background in research, technical innovation, and management. His expertise spans multiple areas of hydrometallurgy, including solvent extraction, ion exchange, and crystallization, covering everything from conceptual design and engineering to startup operations, project management, and leading cross-functional teams. Werner combines process engineering fundamentals with hands-on process development and innovation experience, including several patents.
He holds a master’s degree in chemical engineering from KU Leuven and an A-level expert certification in safety coordination for construction sites.
