In 2020, WMC expanded into the battery materials industry and focused on providing competitive, reliable, transparent and sustainable supplies of raw and refined lithium-ion battery materials. WMC has initiated the development of four chemical processing facility projects within Europe and internationally in support of the global energy transition to an efficient, stable and sustainable society.

Purpose

The Project Planner, reporting to the Director of Asset Development, is a key part of the battery materials asset development team and is responsible for supporting the Director by monitoring, coordinating the asset development projects within WMC. The Project Planner works with the Director to create a comprehensive project and financial reporting structure to ensure the asset development projects advance according to the defined schedule and budget.

Role

The Project Planner is a specialist who: (1) who prepares and coordinates the asset development project portfolio including the project plans and financial budget; (2) monitors and documents the engineering, permitting, EPC and financial progress of the project; (3) controls management of change and recommends preventative action and (4) utilizes KPIs to monitor adherence of the project timeline and budget. The position will be primarily based in the WMC Amsterdam office. Travel may be required to the chemical processing facility sites within Europe and internationally, depending on project requirements.

Functions/Key Responsibilities

• In collaboration with key stakeholders, develop the project plan framework using industry standard project planning tools for the life cycle of each asset development project based on a milestones approach including funding, financing, commercial contracting, engineering, environmental permitting, EPC contracting, construction and commissioning.

• Implement tools to monitor and report on the project portfolio as per the project budget and schedule according to the developed baseline performance metrics.

• Use planning and financial monitoring tools and relevant KPIs to track project schedule and budget.

• Complete weekly and monthly reporting on overall project progress, timeline, project spend and forecasts.

• Manage and update the asset development corporate risk registry and associated mitigation plans.

• Updating weekly action plans based on involvement in asset development meetings with engineering firms, environmental permitting consultants and internal stakeholders.

• Monitor and report on a weekly and monthly basis on the environmental permitting process for each asset development project.

• Support the development of EPC contracts for specific asset development projects.

• Support the development of management systems for each chemical processing facility as required by local regulations.

• Assist WMC on due diligence exercises on an as needed basis.

• Perform any other tasks that fit with the employee’s set of skills, as reasonable requested by WMC, in support of WMC’s general business activities and development of new business activities.

Education and Qualifications

Requirements of the position:

• University degree in accounting or finance (or a degree in natural or engineering sciences with a proven experience in project coordination and controls)

• Strong analytical nature and attention to detail with a minimum of two years of previous experience in industrial-based project planning

• Proven ability to work in a structured and responsible manner

• Self-starter with strong trouble shooting and analytical skills

• Ability to adapt to a changing environment while building strong relationships with a wide variety of personnel

• Proven rational decision-making skills

• Excellent oral and written command of English

• Clear background check

Assets:

• Direct project planning experience in the phased development of chemical processing facilities

• Experience in developing annual operating budgets for industrial chemical processing facilities

• Direct experience in financial engineering
